ABOUT THE TOPIC
This article is about what new insights were obtained from attending a business seminar with academia and why a business chooses to coworking with universities.

ABOUT THE COLLABORATION
This business seminar was organized by Prof. Dr Liv K. Jacobsen of the Universitas Europa Viadrina in Frankfurt and Die Schrippe and Nemo Tauchtouristik GmbH &Co KG.

ABOUT THE BENEFITS
Florian Deja, founder of Die Schrippe,  where his biggest concern was to get this ‘business blindness’. Which means that as an owner, you are not open for new ideas or see new opportunities. He believes that young people will always be needed and should be listened to more often. ” Young people sometimes see obvious things which became a blind spot for you as a business,” he says.

This business seminar inspired the owners and founders of Nemo Tauchtouristik. “Being reminded on the base of your business is of importance to innovate or your company model?”  says Jürgen Herman, owner of Nemo Tauchtouristik. Business is continuously moving. Reminding the base is a good starting point to create new innovations.

“Being reminded on the base of your business is of importance to innovate your company model.”

ABOUT THE OUTCOME
Nemo Tauchtouristik presented their original business model, during this business seminar.  And allowed the students to think, brainstorm and realise their own ideas or interesting perspectives. He believes giving a student the freedom to include their ideas/ opinions, gain new insights that were not noticeable before. Afterwards, the students presented ‘their’ business model for Nemo Tauchtouristik.

During the business seminar, the owner of Die Schrippe gave the students the assignment to relook at the business’s basic concept with a fresh pair of eyes. Furthermore, he asked the students to have a closer look at possible errors or mistakes. The students found some errors which were not noticed by the owners. To the question of whether those ideas can be put into practice depends on many factors. “We will see what our possibilities are,” says Florian Deja.  Nevertheless, this business seminar did bring new perspectives and gave us new ideas to use for future development.
